Commercial solar rebates
Commercial solar rebates — what may be available
Business solar may be supported by federal certificates (STCs up to 100 kW, LGCs for larger systems), with some state schemes supporting related upgrades. Here’s what may apply; check your postcode.
Business solar may be supported by federal Small-scale Technology Certificates (for systems up to 100 kW) or Large-scale Generation Certificates (for larger systems), available across Australia.
What support may be available for commercial solar
Businesses installing rooftop solar may reduce the upfront cost through federal certificates:
- Systems up to 100 kW: Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) provide an upfront discount, the same mechanism as residential solar.
- Larger systems (100 kW+): Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) may apply instead, generated over time based on output.
Some state efficiency schemes may also support related upgrades (lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, power factor correction) for commercial sites. Commercial battery may use the federal discount where eligible.
State efficiency schemes — Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) in VIC, the Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) in NSW and the Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS) in SA — deliver these as an upfront discount through accredited providers. Availability and amounts vary by state, provider and product, and change over time. Other states rely mainly on federal incentives. Verify current details before you commit.
Eligibility depends on system size, accredited installation and current certificate rules. STC values step down over time. Confirm current details before committing.
