For most Australian homes and businesses, the main solar incentive is the federal Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) discount, which applies nationwide and is taken off the price upfront. On top of that, some states run their own (often more targeted) solar programs. Here’s how it compares.

Federal STC solar discount: nationwide

The federal STC discount reduces the upfront cost of eligible rooftop solar (up to 100 kW) across every state and territory. It steps down each January toward 2030.
