Status: Open — applications available

The WA Residential Battery Scheme launched on 1 July 2025 and is open. The WA Government has allocated 100,000 rebates and, as of early 2026, places were still available (currently expected to run to around 2027). Confirm current availability before installing.

What battery support may be available in WA

Western Australia is one of the few states with an active state battery rebate. WA households may be able to combine a state rebate with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, and eligible households may also access an interest-free loan.

Your networkIndicative rebatePer kWh (capped at 10 kWh)Notes
Synergy (SWIS / Perth metro & South West)up to ~$1,300~$130 / kWhVPP participation required
Horizon Power (regional WA)up to ~$3,800~$380 / kWhVPP participation required

Figures are indicative and capped at 10 kWh of usable capacity — a larger battery receives the same capped amount. Amounts and rules change; verify current details before you commit.

Federal support on top

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program may apply nationally and is designed to stack with the WA scheme. It works out to roughly 30% off an eligible battery (delivered as an upfront discount via STCs) and steps down over time, so timing matters.

The interest-free loan option

Eligible WA households (combined income under ~$210,000) may access a no-interest loan of roughly $2,000–$10,000 toward the remaining cost, repaid over 3–10 years. The rebate itself has no income limit — the income test applies only to the loan.

Eligibility notes

Typically requires a WA primary residence on the Synergy or Horizon Power network, a CEC-accredited installer, an approved (VPP-capable) battery, and a commitment to join an approved Virtual Power Plant. Renters and landlords are generally not eligible. Final eligibility depends on current scheme rules and your circumstances.

Residential vs business

The WA Residential Battery Scheme is aimed at households. Businesses may still benefit from the federal battery discount and solar incentives — submit a commercial enquiry and we’ll review what may apply.
