Status: Federal only (Energy Saver Loan closed)

Tasmania's interest-free Energy Saver Loan closed in September 2025. Battery support is now the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount. Check for any replacement state program before installing.

What battery support may be available in Tasmania

With the Energy Saver Loan closed, Tasmanian households access battery support mainly through the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. Tasmania’s high share of renewable generation still makes batteries useful for shifting solar energy into the evening.

Federal support

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program may apply nationally — roughly 30% off an eligible battery (delivered upfront via STCs), stepping down over time. It generally requires the battery to be paired with new or existing solar.

Eligibility notes

The federal discount generally requires the battery to be paired with solar and installed by an accredited installer. We track any new Tasmanian programs — verify current details before installing.
