SA battery rebate
SA battery rebate — what may be available in 2026
South Australia's Home Battery Scheme has closed, but the REPS VPP incentive and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount may still apply — and they can stack. Here’s what may be available; check your postcode.
South Australia's original Home Battery Scheme subsidy has closed and is no longer accepting applications. Don't worry — other pathways have effectively replaced it, and combined they can be very competitive.
What battery support may be available in SA now
Even though the old Home Battery Scheme has closed, South Australian households may still access a combination of a state VPP incentive and the federal battery discount — and SA has some of the highest power prices in the country, so batteries tend to deliver strong value here.
| Pathway | Status | Indicative support | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Federal Cheaper Home Batteries | Open (rate stepping down) | ~30% off / ~$300 per kWh | Battery must be paired with solar |
| REPS VPP incentive | Available | up to ~$2,050 | For joining an approved Virtual Power Plant |
| City of Adelaide battery bonus | Available (selected postcodes) | ~$1,000 | Stacks on top, specific council area |
| SA Home Battery Scheme | Closed | — | No longer accepting applications |
Figures are indicative and change regularly. VPP and council incentives have their own conditions — verify current details before installing.
How the stack works
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount is the largest upfront saving for most households. On top of that, joining an approved Virtual Power Plant through the Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS) may add an incentive, and homes in the City of Adelaide may qualify for a further bonus. Some VPP participants also receive a small annual bill credit.
Typically requires an SA property, an approved battery on the SA Power Networks list, a CEC-accredited installer, and (for the REPS incentive) joining an approved VPP. The federal discount generally requires the battery to be paired with new or existing solar. Final eligibility depends on current scheme rules.

Common questions
No — the original SA Home Battery Scheme subsidy has closed to new applications. The REPS VPP incentive and the federal battery discount are the current pathways and can be combined.
Indicatively, the federal discount (~30% / ~$300 per kWh) plus a REPS VPP incentive (up to ~$2,050), and a ~$1,000 City of Adelaide bonus in selected postcodes. Amounts and rules change — verify before installing.
The REPS incentive generally requires joining an approved Virtual Power Plant. The federal discount does not require a VPP but the battery must be VPP-capable and paired with solar.
Businesses may access the federal battery discount, solar incentives and certain REPS activities. Submit a commercial enquiry and we'll review what may apply.
