Queensland battery rebate — what may be available in 2026

Status: Federal only (Battery Booster closed)

Queensland's Battery Booster Program has ended and there is no current state-wide household battery rebate. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount still applies, and some QLD retailers offer their own VPP incentives.

What battery support may be available in Queensland

With the state Battery Booster Program closed, Queensland households access battery support mainly through the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. Some electricity retailers also run Virtual Power Plant programs that may pay an incentive or ongoing credits for participation.

Federal support

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program may apply nationally — roughly 30% off an eligible battery (delivered upfront via STCs), stepping down over time. It generally requires the battery to be paired with new or existing solar.

Renters and landlords

Queensland has run programs aimed at renters and rental providers (such as solar-for-renters initiatives). Availability changes — submit an enquiry and we’ll review what may currently apply.

Eligibility notes

The federal discount generally requires the battery to be paired with solar and installed by an accredited installer. Retailer VPP offers have their own terms. Verify current details before installing.
