Compare your energy bill

Compare energy plans using your actual usage

Price supported market plans against your real usage — from your smart-meter data or a photo of your bill — instead of a made-up household average. No email or phone number needed to see results.

We price real market plans against your electricity usage instead of a made-up average household. Choose how to give us that usage: your smart-meter file for the sharpest result, a photo of your bill for speed — or skip both and type it in manually (your postcode and quarterly kWh is all it takes).

⚡ Smart-meter data Best comparison

Your total usage is only part of the story — a kWh at 6pm can cost far more than one overnight. A NEM12 interval file lets us price each half-hour at the rate that would have applied.

Stays on your device. The file is read entirely in your browser and is never sent to us or anyone else.

We'll read the usage and rate figures off your bill and estimate against them. You'll check what we found before anything is compared.

Photograph the page with your usage and charges — usually page 2, not the front summary. Include billing dates, usage in kWh, rates, any discount and the amount due; you can cover your name and account number. If your postcode is on a different page, no problem — we’ll simply ask for it.

Sent securely to be read. Your bill goes to Anthropic to extract the usage and rate figures; we delete our temporary copy immediately.
How processing and retention work The document may contain your name, address and NMI even though we never display or store those details. Anthropic processes it under its commercial API terms — not used for training by default, generally deleted from its systems within 30 days. Full details in our privacy policy. How to get your NEM12 smart-meter file
  1. Find your distributor on your bill — it's named next to the faults & outages phone number (it's not your retailer).
  2. Open your distributor's data portal: NSW Ausgrid / Endeavour / Essential "My Energy Data" · VIC CitiPower / Powercor / United / Jemena / AusNet "myEnergy" · SA SA Power Networks portal · QLD Energex / Ergon "My Energy".
  3. Register with the NMI from your bill (a 10–11 digit number).
  4. Request "detailed" / "interval" / NEM12 data — ask for at least 12 months.
  5. Upload the downloaded file here. It's usually named something like NEM12_…csv and a few MB in size.

Usage CSVs downloaded from a retailer's app (e.g. AGL) are a different format and won't work — it must come from your network.

From public Consumer Data Right product-reference endpoints supplied by participating energy retailers, which we normalise for comparison and refresh nightly. Energy Made Easy is a separate Australian Government comparison service operated by the Australian Energy Regulator.

They're estimates: your usage annualised against each plan's published rates including GST and guaranteed discounts. Conditional discounts (pay-on-time, direct debit), demand tariffs and gas bundles are excluded, and your actual costs will move with your usage and seasonal rates.

No. Plans are ranked purely by estimated annual cost for your usage, and plan links go to the retailer's own website. We're an independent information service — our related service is checking government rebate eligibility for energy-efficiency upgrades.

It never leaves your device. The file is parsed in your browser and only the usage figures are used to price plans on screen. Your meter identifier appears only on the confirmation screen and is not sent anywhere or stored.

It's transmitted securely to our AI bill-reading provider (Anthropic) to extract the usage and charge figures. We delete the temporary copy from our server immediately after processing. The bill is also processed by Anthropic under its commercial API data-handling terms — Anthropic states API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default and are generally deleted within 30 days, unless an exception or different contractual arrangement applies. The document may contain your name, address, NMI and account number even though we only ask for, display and use the usage figures — we never store those personal details. This page also uses Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics; no bill contents or usage values are sent to analytics. Details are in our privacy policy. If you'd rather nothing left your device, use the NEM12 option instead.

If your annual usage is above the small-customer threshold for your state (for example 100 MWh in NSW), electricity is normally negotiated with retailers rather than chosen from published plans. We'll tell you when that applies, show your comparison as indicative context only, and — if you've used smart-meter data — give you a free commercial energy check (peak demand, overnight baseload, load factor) with no contact details required. Arranging negotiated quotes is an optional extra step, never the price of seeing your analysis.

Yes — published small-business market plans are compared the same way, and business bills are detected automatically when uploaded. Two caveats: bills with demand (kVA/kW) charges are shown as indicative only, and larger sites on negotiated contracts should treat published plans as a benchmark. For businesses, the bigger saving is usually the usage itself — commercial lighting, refrigeration and HVAC upgrades attract substantial certificate rebates.

In parts of Australia (much of WA and the NT, regional Queensland, and some of Tasmania) electricity prices are regulated and retailers don't compete, so there's nothing meaningful to compare. Rebates may still apply — try the rebate checker.
